Placenta Bleed & Hospital Stay

As most of y'all have heard, baby and I ended up in the hospital after a placenta bleed on Thursday morning. I have not bleed since the initial gush, and thankfully they were able to reduce my contractions to within the normal range. They are taking great care of us, we are both doing MUCH better, and expect to go home by Thursday! Our doctor would like us to make it to 36 weeks before our C-Section, unless I have another bleed that ruptures that placenta and would require an emergency C-section. In order to ensure that our little guy stays inside as long as possible, I will need to be on bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy.

The Longer, much more Detailed Version:
I have been diagnosed with a Full Placenta Previa: the baby's placenta is fully covering the cervix (the baby's exit from my uterus) which means that I can't go into natural labor, and I will require a C-section since the placenta has essentially "locked" the baby inside. One of the complications associated with a Placenta Previa is bleeding because as the baby moves around in my belly and gravity pulls him downward, he will bump into the placenta and this can cause bleeds, which can cause contractions and pre-term labor. This is most likely what happened on Thursday morning. Luckily, the "bump" into the placenta did not erupt the entire placenta is just cased some bleeding that the doctors were able to control.

When I was admitted to the hospital, I was hooked up to a nasty medication called Magnesium Sulfate - it is a very strong muscle relaxer - in addition to doing it's job of relaxing the uterus and reducing the contractions (from 2-3 an hour to 3 contractions over 7 hours), it also relaxed all my other muscles and made me feel groggy and exhausted. The doctors also gave me steroid shots to develop the baby's lungs and GI track in case they had to deliver him in the next few weeks before his lungs will be matured.

Right now, our son is 30 weeks (and 3lbs), and from here on out, I will need to be on bed rest. For everyone who knows me that is going to be quite a challenge. But it is important for me to stay off my feet so that the baby's head isn't putting pressure on the placenta.

Thank you for your continued prayers for the safety of me and our son. Please continue to pray that he will stay safely inside my belly for the next 6 weeks so that he came come out strong and healthy. We know that God is in control, and whenever our son is delivered, He will be watching over us and protecting us both :-)
